This project began life as a remodel to an aged beach house. The owners wanted to add a significant amount of square footage to the house without compromising its small, cute character or disrupting its harmonious place within the neighborhood. To respond to this challenge, we designed the additional spaces to nestle behind the existing structure, reducing their visual weight. New exterior materials and detailing retained the textural scale and intricacy of the original, making a connection between old and new.
As the project progressed, new opportunities were uncovered as we progressed with demolition. Managing the scope of the work while still bringing out the full expression of what this house wanted to be was an exercise in collaboartaion and clear communication between the owner, contractor, and architect. The final result is a beautiful home that every member of the team is proud of.
